Overview

What the BSCS is

The BSCS is the most structured undergraduate program at ACLAS. Its twelve courses are arranged into four named stages, each building on the last, so that the sequence from first principles to advanced material is explicit rather than implied.

Stage one covers programming readiness: an introduction to computer science, Python fundamentals, and data structures and algorithms. Stage two moves into single-node systems — automata and formal languages, compiler design, and computer systems from a programr's perspective. Stage three is connectivity and engineering practice: networks and web protocols, database systems, and software engineering and architecture. Stage four, the advanced frontier, covers cybersecurity, distributed systems and applied machine learning.

Several courses are explicitly aligned to standard texts — distributed systems to van Steen and Tanenbaum, database systems to Silberschatz, Korth and Sudarshan, and data structures and algorithms to Introduction to Algorithms. Tuition is a one-time USD 199 for 120 credits.

Learning outcomes

What you should be able to do afterwards

These are the outcomes ACLAS publishes for the BSCS.

  • A rigorous theoretical foundation in computer science.
  • System-level engineering and optimisation skills.
  • Full-stack and network system design capability.
  • Working command of advanced areas including machine learning and distributed systems.

Who it suits

Who the BSCS is for

  • Students who want an engineering-grade computing degree, not a coding bootcamp.
  • Working developers who want formal grounding in the theory behind their practice.
  • Career changers with strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Anyone preparing for specialisation in AI, systems or security.

Admission requirements

What you need before you start

These are the entry requirements ACLAS publishes for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. They are checked at application rather than at enrollment, so it is worth reading them first.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, including high-school-level mathematics: algebra, functions and logical reasoning.
  • Basic computer literacy and the ability to set up a development environment.
  • Ability to read technical English — documentation and code comments.
  • A computer capable of running Python, compilers and lightweight virtual machines or Docker, on Windows, macOS or Linux, with a stable internet connection.

Questions

BSCS questions

The questions applicants ask about this program specifically.

What mathematics do I need before starting the BSCS?

High-school-level mathematics: algebra, functions and logical reasoning. The first stage then builds programming and algorithmic foundations from that base.

What computer do I need?

ACLAS states that you need a machine capable of running Python, compilers and lightweight virtual machines or Docker — Windows, macOS or Linux are all acceptable — plus a stable internet connection.

How is the BSCS structured?

Twelve courses in four stages: foundations and programming readiness, single-node systems, connectivity and engineering practice, and advanced frontiers. Each stage builds on the one before it.

What does the BSCS cost?

USD 199 as a one-time payment for 120 credits, with an installment option carrying a USD 2 fee per installment.
